i've noticed that King's Quest I had to be run by navigating to it's directory in DosBox and then typing "KQ1" to run. i only discovered this in a forum...HOW THE HELL DO I RUN THIS GAME? there is NO drag and drop functionality, and there is no .exe.

I downloaded the DOSbox and the game (DOS version) but I don't know how to run it. I am using a macbook.

My favorite of the series. Severely underrated. The only game I can think of where the copy protection scheme was fun too.

First PC game I ever played. It was always fun to tell it to kick the cat.

@pierre

"Early 90's"? Try mid 80's 1986 to be exact. I was 13 when the "Sierra Christmas expo '85" Demo (Which had two playable demos of upcoming games and three non-playable ones.) came out and I played it at the State Fair. Damn, I am so old.

it makes feel early 90's atmosphere...

try to run it, says missing sierra folder. Try to boot off the exe. and it says bad computer image.

KRE,

Run it in DOSBOX, and mount the virtual C:\ drive as whatever directory the game files are in. If you don't know how to do this, type help at the DOSBOX prompt. If you still need help, there are lots of Dosbox tutorial and frontends (Interfaces that make it easier to run programs in Dosbox.) on the internet.

I do not understand computers...at all. When i try to save my game it tells me there is no directory. What does this mean and how do I fix this? I don't want to play if I have to keep starting over each time.

I remember playing this when I was five and couldn't spell. All I could type was open door, open gate, and sweep floor. The wizard killed me countless times and I could never get away. Ah, memories~!

Damn Nicky's comment makes me feel old; I got my first zits the year this game came out. LMAO

Actually, what my parents got me was the short lived C-16, basically the Vic-20 with all the upgrade carts pre-installed, which was quickly overtaken by the Commodore 64 three months later. Since I was a nerd at the time, I really didn't mind because programming the C-16 in BASIC and machine language was as fun as hell.

This was the first graphic adventure I ever played, and the one that got me hooked on the genre. I only recently played it all the way through, however, because I only played the store demo when it came out. The price of a PC Jr. was WAY out of my league when I was 12, and my parents weren't going to spring for it after buying me a Vic-20 at a garage sale. (I swear I didn't make that part up.)

Man I remember playing this as a kid. Hiding from the evil wizard, but I never figured out how to kill him cause I had the pirated version on Amiga 500. Funny to think it was made one year after I was born, ha.
