WHAT IS “IN COLD BLOOD”?
Truman Capote based his 1966 book “In Cold Blood” on the 1959 murders of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas. Richard Hickok and Perry Smith, two ex-convicts, committed the heinous crimes while attempting to rob the Clutters of a large amount of cash they believed Herbert Clutter kept in his house. Capote spent six years, with the aid of friend and fellow author, Harper Lee, interviewing everyone, including the murderers, and published what was dubbed a new literary genre– the nonfiction novel. Capote won his second Edgar Award for “In Cold Blood”. The first was in 1962 when he and William Archibald won the Edgar for Best Motion Picture Screenplay for “The Innocents”.
The 1967 film based on the book was nominated for 4 Academy Awards but didn’t win any as the film was up against some fierce competition. Scott Wilson, who played “In Cold Blood” murderer Hickok, also had a part as a murder suspect in 1967’s Best Picture “In the Heat of the Night”. Robert Blake, who played “In Cold Blood” murderer Smith, became a real-life murder suspect in the fatal shooting of his wife in 2001. Eerily, Blake’s wife and Mrs. Clutter’s names were Bonny and Bonnie. Both were in their mid-40s when they were murdered.
Allison had no response. She bet her whole $6,000 so she ended up with bupkis.
Jonah got it right. He bet it all and doubled his score to $25,600.
Will bet $9,601 and won the game with $25,601. Will Stewart is the new Jeopardy! champ.
